Peeta is special to our hearts. He was labeled as "aggressive" and scheduled to be euthanized. We had to act quickly. Imagine being taken away and being thrown in a cage all day. Strangers passing you every day and you have no idea what’s going on or what’s going to happen to you. This is the consideration of every animal placed in a shelter, and this confusion can lead to some behavioral consequences. While people stroll through the aisles looking for their new pet, some dogs can act unusually not because they’re genuinely mean, but because they’re scared and stressed out. This can mean that these dogs don’t get adopted, and at many shelters, that leads to euthanasia like Peeta was scheduled to be. He was so severely kennel stressed that he was starting to hurt himself and perhaps this is why they didn't give him a second chance. He was skin and bones, started chewing on his own tail, trying to escape the cage he was in. When we picked him up and got him out of the kennel, he was as sweet as sweet can be. He would follow you every where and wags his tail hello. He is definitely a lover and not a fighter. He no longer displayed any anxiety-driven behaviors nor was he at all aggressive. He was in poor health when we got to him. Not only did he have wounds to heal, a bacterial lung infection which resulted in pneumonia, and canine herpes virus to deal with. This is why rescue dogs are so special because they always seem to be grateful to the humans who gave them a second chance. There is something amazing about the resiliency of dogs. Even though Peeta has been through so much, as soon as they’re in the presence of someone who loves them, they are ready to love that person right back. We are so happy to announce that Peeta has found a forever family to love him and give him a second chance at a life he deserves. Peeta, you sweet boy, we wish you nothing but a lifetime full of love and happiness.
